Vision

Our vision for Canada is… that all schools are sustainable. We have spent our school year working towards this and by educating our community and families about being more sustainable.

Action

Our slide show shows a number of actions we took. This included The Plastic Bag Grab, our Community Family Wellness Night were we discussed our school Waste Audits, Take Me Outside Day, our Zero Food Waste Challenge success while at Mansfield Outdoor Education Centre, we did presentations for our teachers to help them to put their waste in the correct stream, we attended the EcoLeague Forum and participated in workshops with students from other schools, we have a Blue Crew that helps our caretakers with recycling. We also learned to sew and upcycled fabric into reusable gift bags! Our school participating in these actions changes our community and families. Parents and shareholders in our school try to help us with our sustainability goals (our Parent Council only uses sustainable materials for events like Family BBQ and movie night). Our Before and After School care program realizes that what they put in our waste stream has an impact on us as a school. Our families invest in reusable containers or water bottles for lunches! We also grow food in our Community School Garden.

Reflection & Celebration

We are optimistic that we will be a Platinum Ontario EcoSchool again this year. We are Halton DSB’s longest running Platinum School. We hope we will be celebrating at our Family BBQ in June and part of this event will take place in the school garden. As an Eco-Hawk team we are going to be making our own toothpaste to take home in glass jars! This is a fun way to celebrate all of the sustainable things we have done this year and take some of that home with us.
