Conscious Consumption

Vision

Our vision for Canada is a focus on sustainability education, especially related to waste management. We want people to be conscious of the relationship between consumption and garbage production and, in turn, do what they can to minimize waste.

Action

On November 10th, our team attended LSF’s Youth Leadership Forum in Halifax. From the speakers and workshops, we learned about sustainability topics and skills such as ocean pollution, which made us interested in pursuing Action Projects about the issues of plastic water bottles and why we should stop using them in our schools. Which are important to us because they make up most of the garbage that our school produces. To fix this issue, an action we could take is imposing a ban on bottle drinks in vending machines, but first we’ll need to talk to our principal and school board. We’ll also have to learn more about vending machine companies. We hope that by the end of the school year, we will have been able to lower the amount of plastic bottle waste our school produces.
