Going Green: Conserving our Water Commons and Spreading the Nutrition

Vision

Our vision for Canada is to raise awareness about sustainability issues, especially those related to water management and food security/accessibility.

Action

Our team attended LSF’s Youth Leadership Forum in Halifax in November. From the speakers and workshops, we learned about sustainability topics and skills such as pollution, solving the issues of the age we live in, thinking creatively, and entrepreneurialism. This made us interested in pursuing Action Projects that can help our community move forward in living sustainably. We could create a greenhouse behind our school that will be accessible to everyone, and also work on a book talking about the water crisis in Potlotek. Initiatives like these are important to us because they would raise awareness about global issues and would allow our community better access to local fresh fruits and vegetables. To get started, some actions we could take are volunteering in our community to get to know its members, having meetings with our chief and youth council, as well as meeting with adults and our elders. We’ll also need to speak to our school board and principal and learn more about would it would take to move forward with our plan. We hope that by the end of the school year, we will work on both projects and gain much success in our future endeavours in sustainability.
