No Waste in Our Space!

Vision

To increase the number of eco-friendly spaces, and increase overall participation in sustainability initiatives in our community.

Action

Our team attended LSF’s Youth Leadership Forum in Guelph in December. From the speakers and workshops, we learned about sustainability topics and skills such as: the importance of tree diversity, the necessity of clean water, the importance of youth engagement, etc. Learning about these things made us interested in pursuing Action Projects related to the issue(s) of waste management, specifically recycling, and re-purposing used plastic water bottles. These things are important to us because we need to preserve our natural environment, for ourselves and for the future. To fix these issues, some actions we could take are to educate our friends and families on proper waste disposal and recycling procedures. To get started, first we’ll need to talk to our teachers and peers to learn more about proper waste management practices and how to get others to participate in responsible waste management. We hope that by the end of the school year, we will be able to create a more eco-friendly space in our school!

Reflection & Celebration

We finished our first phase and will continue to add more plants next year. We would also like to add more benches and a compost bin.
