Polllinator garden

Vision

Our vision for Canada is a place where Canadians live and work together to create an environment that fosters the growth and protection of pollinators, while creating a garden that all can enjoy.

Pollinator Garden Expansion with Pathway

Our vision for Canada is…
a place where Canadians live and work together to create an environment that fosters the growth and protection of pollinators, while creating a garden that all can enjoy.

We have built and expanded a pollinator garden on school grounds. Our expansion includes a pathway of patio tiles so that our wheelchair bound classmates can also enjoy the sensory experience of the garden.

Pollinators, including butterflies, several species of bees, and birds, have been struggling to maintain their population. This project highlights plants which favour the pollinators.

Action

Last year we started building a pollinator garden.
This year we expanded it by collecting materials to create a wheelchair accessible path and creating a large bed to plant pollinator plants.
By planting plants and tending them (weeding and watering) we are providing a habitat for pollinators while creating a garden all can enjoy.
We are one of several pollinator gardens being built within a corridor (within 200 meters of each other) to provide a viable habitat for pollinator species. Students in grade nine took the lead on this project. Geography students landscaped by digging and building the garden and path. Science students germinated pollinator plants and tended the garden. Students in several classes participated in the creation of this project.
