The Eastwood Retrofit
Our vision for Canada is to produce more clean energy, and increase the number recycling programs.
Our team attended LSF’s Youth Leadership Forum in Guelph in December. From the speakers and workshops, we learned about sustainability topics and skills such as: identifying invasive species, the environmental effects of plastic water bottles, our carbon footprint, and the importance of bike routes. Learning about these things made us interested in pursuing Action Projects related to the issue of LED retrofitting. This is important to us because a retrofit could save the board and school thousands of dollars, while saving energy. To fix these issues, some actions we could take are to try and create a proposal to our board to pursue a retrofit. To get started, first we’ll need to talk to our parents and administrative staff to learn about the current energy costs and whether the lighting system of an old school is replaceable. We hope that by the end of the school year, we will be able to create a plan for a LED retrofit in our school.
