Vision

Our vision for Canada is to have Students who care about the world and its future. This includes topics such as sustainability, ecology & green energy. Our vision is to create a learning environment that can have students use the garden spaces as outdoor classrooms and how most course curriculum can be taught using this environment.

Action

We have two school gardens that have been neglected or haven’t been utilized for their potential classroom uses. This School year my teaching partner, Ms. Weiss, and I have brought in a professional farmer and with donations through different programs and a couple other community groups have purchased tools, seeds, soil, compost, and a few other items. This is to help make our two garden sites a usable classroom setting for lessons to take place for Science, Social studies, and Indigenous studies.

Reflection & Celebration

We have had one classroom celebration meal where we used the greens and salads grown to have as a main course in a luncheon. We invited students, staff, and parents to eat with us. We hope to have one more at the end of June with the next harvest of our plants. Our program allows for Inquiry based & project based learning opportunities to show students learning. The funds from “Learning for a Sustainable Future” has helped make our vision come closer
