Altering the Future
Vision
Educating students on more sustainable options to power technology and be mindful of energy consumption.
Action
Students spearheaded an action project aimed at exploring alternative energy solutions through coding. Utilizing the “All-in-One Climate Action Kit”, students embarked on a journey to deepen our understanding of renewable energy and its integration with coding and their learning with classmates.
Objective –
The primary objective of our project was to investigate alternative energy sources such as solar and wind power while honing our coding skills to develop innovative solutions for sustainable energy generation and management.
Implementation –
Kit Utilization: Students leveraged the components of the Climate Action Kit to experiment with renewable energy technologies. This included sensors for monitoring environmental data, microcontrollers for coding applications, and educational resources for guidance.
Exploration of Alternative Energy: Through hands-on experiments and research, students explored various alternative energy sources, with a focus on solar and wind power. Students learned about the principles behind these technologies and their potential applications in addressing climate change.
Coding Workshops: Students led a coding workshop where peers learned to program microbits to interface with sensors and control devices. These workshops provided practical experience in coding while reinforcing concepts related to alternative energy systems.
Project Development: Working in small groups, we developed projects that combined our knowledge of alternative energy and coding. Projects ranged from solar-powered weather stations to wind turbine monitoring systems, showcasing innovative applications of STEM skills in sustainable energy solutions.
Outcomes –
Hands-On Learning: Through hands-on experimentation and project development, students gained practical insights into alternative energy technologies and their integration with coding.
Skill Enhancement: Students demonstrated improvement in coding proficiency, data analysis, and problem-solving skills, as evidenced by the successful completion of complex projects.
Creative Solutions: Students showcased creativity and innovation in developing projects that addressed real-world challenges, highlighting the potential of STEM skills in driving sustainable change.
Empowerment: By taking ownership of the project, students felt empowered to make a positive impact on the environment and society, fostering a sense of responsibility and agency.
