Amber Trails Farm
Vision
To establish a student run vegetable farm that funds its own capital costs by growing organic food for community members, staff, and students.
Action
We run the farm all year long. In winter, we grow micro-greens for our canteen and foods program, in summer, we have a summer farm camp where students take care and manage a CSA farm from seed to harvest. Every summer we have students that continue to take care of the farm all summer long even during holidays. They work 2-3 days a week a couple hours a day taking care of the farm. They seed, weed, water, harvest, package, process, and distribute the veggies on the farm.
Reflection & Celebration
We are in year 4 of our growing and it has been amazing. We have students who have worked on the farm the past 4 years, and a student that is now the farm co-coordinator as a paid employee! We hope to the farm to be able to offer summer employment for students who have put their time into the farm over the many years attending Amber Trails Community School.
