Battery Recycling Project

Vision

Our vision is to create the conditions for supporting Environmental and Sustainable Education through hope and meaningful engagement.

Action

We are so proud that M. Bertrand’s class has initiated Call2Recycle®, Canada’s free battery collection and recycling program. Our first box was filled within minutes as soon as we received it. As a result, we received six additional boxes that are waiting for recyclable batteries. Grandparents, friends and co-workers are invited to send batteries to school to support this initiative. We welcome and thank you in playing a proactive role in protecting the environment!

We are proud of this class for having presented in all homerooms and at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. This was a source of inspiration for all Grade 1-4 students to create a Sustainable Development Goals Exposition. Students had an opportunity to present possibilities for a greener community. As next steps, we are ordering from TerraCycle to recycle wrappers from the universal food program in Manitoba in addition to used pens and markers. We also are looking into vermicomposting and other future possibilities.

Reflection & Celebration

We are grateful for our thoughtful team of young, responsible, and caring citizens who are supported by teachers and families. We are seeing how we can make great gains in providing a hopeful future collectively. Students know that in protecting the environment, we are also protecting human rights.
