Bug Houses Project!
Vision
The vision of this project was to engage the students in two ways. The first being climate action and the second being new skills such as woodworking. The students were tasked with building bug houses, bat houses and butterfly houses. This made for a trio of pollinator homes for our school yard and the community garden next door.
Action
What ended up taking place was that the students were able to make 4 sets of each of these wonderful homes! At the same time students were able to learn about the ways in which butterflies, bats and bugs pollinate plants and help better our environment. This ended up being a really wonderful project because it also tied into our ButterflyWay Project where we were able to build and plant three pollinator gardens at our school. We’re hoping to expand our gardens next year and house more of the creatures that help us and the climate out everyday!
Reflection & Celebration
We celebrated by sharing some of these bug/bat/butterfly houses with the community garden next door which also has a brand new pollinator garden! The project ended up tying in well with curriculum and our pollinator project so, it was a big win for our school!
