Building Sustainable School Food Systems

Vision

My vision is to help build healthy and sustainable school food systems in the Lower Mainland. By doing so, we can inspire the next generation of Canadians to have a more active dialogue on food related issues – including local food production, food security, environmental sustainability, and personal health.

Action

Think & Eat Green @ School is a grassroots initiative to help build healthy and sustainable school food systems. It does so by helping university students, faculty, and community organizations to complete school projects with elementary school students about food production, consumption, composting, and the value of community gardens. This will help foster a greater understand of food related issues – including food security, environmental sustainability, and personal health. My involvement in the Land, Food, and Community 250 class at UBC has actively contributed to this program by visiting elementary schools across Vancouver where we held composting, cooking, and gardening projects.
