Bunn’s Creek Research Project

Vision

At John G. Stewart our project will involve testing the water quality of Bunn’s Creek and determining the state of the creek based on plant and animal species in and around the creek.

Action

The grade 11 Topic of Science class learned about the Lake Winnipeg watershed and the issue of water quality by researching a local creek that runs adjacent to our school. We measured water quality by making a secchi disk that was used to determine turbidity, used testing strips to test the quality of the water, went for walks along the creek to make observations about the state of the ecosystem, and made a minnow trap to find evidence of aquatic life. We then shared our findings with others in the school to spread the word about Bunn’s Creek.
