🌎 SDG Connections for K–1 Students
SDG 2: Zero Hunger “Everyone should have healthy food.” Chicks grow into chickens that lay eggs – eggs are healthy food!
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being “We all need to be healthy.” We learn how animals stay healthy, just like us.
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production “Let’s not waste and take care of things.” Learn to care for chicks and clean their space to avoid waste.
SDG 15: Life on Land “Let’s take care of animals and nature.” Treat chicks gently and learn about farms and the Earth.
Reflection & Celebration
Students loved being part of learning how to take care of eggs and chicks and watching them hatch and grow! It was amazing to see how much they learned about the process and where the questions took us. One family actually decided to start raising their own chickens! The students were so excited about the process of sustainable farming and lowering energy consumption that they decided to grow vegetables in the planters in the Kindergarten area. We planted tomatoes, squash and carrots!
