Vision

Our goal is to turn orange peels into a sweet-and-sour orange candy. This could impact climate change, as orange peels emit methane gas, a potent greenhouse gas. We think that this could stop a lot of organic waste from rotting, as more than 4 million tons of orange peels are wasted and thrown away each year.

Action

To do this, we will turn orange peels into candy by mixing them into a syrup mixture. The texture of the orange peels works well, and can taste very good if done right. We can use orange peels thrown away by orange companies, or orange juice companies. This way, we take their waste and upcycle it into a candy.

Reflection & Celebration

We think this project is a quick change, that can make a big impact. 8% of greenhouse gas emissions are from food waste, and orange peels are a major part of food waste. Through a basic candying process, we could help save the planet.
