Container Community Garden

Vision

Among many other exciting projects, our eco-team has started building container garden boxes, in which to grow vegetables. We believe that any available green space can be converted into being useful garden space in which to feed people locally.

Action

We, with the support of LSF, bought wood and soil and seed. We add compost and worms from the vermiculture bin we care for all winter long. We have planted some seedlings and some seeds. It was so successful last year, that the students wanted to add more containers, with a total of 7 now, to plant more food like potatoes and onions to give to our local food bank. Our students now speak of their parents also planting vegetables (instead of annual flowers!) in their gardens. We have families who sign up to weed and water, (and harvest!) the garden for specific weeks throughout the summer.
