Vision

Our vision is to create a cleaner and greener school community by tackling plastic pollution and water wastage. We will begin by identifying these issues through a comprehensive survey.

Next, we will raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic on our environment, educating our peers on the importance of reducing plastic usage. To make this effort engaging, we will conduct an innovative awareness campaign that makes garbage disposal fun and interactive.

We will transform our school yard by establishing a beautiful garden, starting with a thorough clean-up of the existing trash. Extending our efforts beyond the school, we will clean up local neighborhood areas and seek donations to plant trees, benefiting the entire community. Additionally, we will involve younger students in raising awareness about ocean pollution.

Finally, we will repeat our initial survey to measure the impact of our campaigns and initiatives, ensuring that our efforts are making a significant difference in our school community.”

Action

The students at Alhaadi School embarked on a multifaceted initiative aimed at enhancing sustainability within their school community and neighborhood. Their project focused on tackling water waste, plastic pollution, and environmental degradation while promoting green practices. Conducting a comprehensive survey revealed the prevalence of plastic items, particularly bottled water and packaged food, contributing significantly to pollution. To address this, they organized school presentations to raise awareness of the detrimental effects of plastic on health and the environment, targeting both students and kindergarteners. To make waste disposal engaging, they ingeniously repurposed used plastic water bottles into a basketball hoop atop garbage bins. Furthermore, they conducted neighborhood cleanups and established a small garden, fostering a sense of responsibility and community involvement, especially among younger students. With support from the parent community, they planted trees using funds from LSF and implemented a rain barrel system for water reuse. Inspired by the pressing need to address environmental issues and motivated by the threat posed by the Dakota Power Plant to local water resources, the students took proactive steps to mitigate their impact. Their project not only contributes to sustainability and climate change mitigation but also fosters community cohesion and promotes environmental stewardship.

Reflection & Celebration

We will celebrate the success of this project with a class party at the local park. To continue raising awareness, we will focus on reducing plastic waste and educating others about the harmful effects of plastic on health. We’ll ensure our plants are well taken care of and involve the entire school community in these efforts. Thank you, LSF, for your invaluable support.
