Environmental Action Project
Vision
Our class participated in a Youth Forum put on by Learning For a Sustainable Future (LSF) encouraging environmental action projects. After attending, students designed their own small action projects in small groups.
After seeing a compelling presentation on the value and importance of sweat bees the group made helping the vulnerable pollinator population in Nova Scotia a focus.
Action
Student completed action projects to raise awareness, provide suitable habitats/plant species, built small structures for bee homes, designed an art piece and fund-raised for a local gardening group.
Reflection & Celebration
Although it was a tough year to carry out community-based projects we were able to complete most parts of our action projects in some form. It was a very valuable learning experience for the students both about the value of small scale efforts but also in planning and adjusting, revising, working as a team toward a common goal.
