EPIC Eco-Extravaganza

Vision

Our vision is youth engagement in reducing our school’s carbon and ecological footprint and bringing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to life!

Action

Our EPIC (Environmental Protection In our Community) club created a student-led contest to engage all students in a variety of eco-activities at home and at school. Students brain-stormed how to get participation and decided prizes would motivate those who are not otherwise inspired to take action to give it a try and thus bring all students into the eco-fold! Students designed a campaign advertised on announcements and posters around the school to plan events such as an earth day walk, community clean-up, compost prep day in the gardens, planting tomatoes, and taking tomato plants home which students can participate in and collect points through an online google form. Other suggested activities from building bird feeders from recycled materials to writing a local politican about an environmental issue can be completed by students at home and with proof provided with pictures, more points can be collected. The winner with the most points will be announced on World Environment Day (June 5) and other runners up will receive sustainable local gifts including a night of bowling, movie tickets, and food from local establishments. We hope to get everyone excited by this EPIC Eco-Extravaganza!

Reflection & Celebration

After the campaign wraps up our EPIC team will be treated to a pizza lunch where we will debrief our Start-Stop-Continue process that we do after each event to determine our plans for making next year bigger and better.
