Farm to Table
Vision
To support our students in developing healthy, sustainable, eco-friendly life styles and making choices with our planet as a priority.
Action
Teaching students about sustainable farming and fishing through hands on experiential learning opportunities. Students will plant vegetables from seeds, grow and tend to a school community garden, utilise the food they’ve grown to make healthy meals, and learn from industry experts.
Reflection & Celebration
Despite only being halfway through the project, we have seen great success. Students have reported this to be their favourite class and parents have credited it with increase engagement and attendance in school.
Students understand the effort that goes into growing their own food and have developed a greater sense of responsibility when caring for plants.
We incubated 20 eggs, and hatched 14 chicks. The whole school community was enthralled with the little chicks and it created an opportunity for the school to re-unite after a difficult few years.
We have engaged with the wider community by meeting local farmers, fishers, and agriculture experts.
