Food Cycler Compost

Vision

To teach the students at Deer Island Community about food waste and how we can do something about it in our school and community.

Action

The students in grades 2 and 3 have been collecting food waste from their lunches and turning it into compost to help grow plants in the grade 4/5 class, as well as putting around our school yard to help grow flowers to help our school look as beautiful as we can.

Reflection & Celebration

Students have been doing an amazing job collecting food waste. Students have been sorting and keeping all the food waste from their lunches, and some students have even been collecting food waste at home. Students have been excited to use the food cycler and see the compost that it produces. This has been a great addition to our small school community, and students have now changed the way they think about food waste.
