Fountains: The Taste That Can’t Be Ignored

Vision

Why does our school water taste weird? And why does no one drink it? We set out to investigate, but what we found was way bigger than just one school. It’s a problem that impacts communities across Canada. In this documentary, we dig deep into the issue of clean water access, confronting privilege and uncovering the hidden inequalities that keep safe drinking water out of reach for so many Indigenous communities. Through creative projects and bold conversations, we explore what it really means to protect water—for ourselves, for our communities, and for future generations.

Action

Students have a multistep action plan.
– Connecting with FNMI community Elders
– Lessons and presentations to other classes
– Posters around the school to promote water education
– Science investigation around testing different water (fountains, tap, “bottled” water etc)
– Interviewing our school admin and seeking guidance/help
– Class posters about pollutants
– Slide shows for each class and educting our school
– Creating lessons around water protection for other classrooms

Reflection & Celebration

Our class has learned the true equity of water through the FNMI perspectives. We have opened our hearts to what it means to appreciate and take care of our water as Water Protectors.
