Garden Beds and Outdoor Classroom

Vision

We want to have a bigger garden to grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers in our school and use this space to learn outside. We want to make it attractive with trees growing as well.
The learning outcomes as we grow some plants and trees are numerous for our kindergarten to grade 9 students in sustainability, science and emotional well being to mention a few. We want to increase awareness in a healthy environment for the bees and other animals, including us and also pin point that it’s not so hard to grow healthy food with patience and tenacity.
We do have garden beds around but we want a space dedicated to learning outside, with sitting and possibly a roof to extend the number of days we can use it.

Action

We have received some materials for beds, soil and seeds and are collecting volunteers and more funds from the parents association to make the space enclosed and build seating and possibly a roof.
For the 2021-2022 year, the construction of the beds as well as fundraising for the rest of the needed materials is our focus.

Reflection & Celebration

At the very first steps of the project, we haven’t done a celebration yet but we are reflecting on the collaborative aspect or growing a garden. All the grades are involved in growing in the existing beds, watering, weeding, planting and eating our produce.
