Garden Centre
Vision
Our vision is to use the spaces available to us to grow and sustain new ecosystems and opportunities for growth: seeds, bees, insects. We want to provide spaces within our school and outdoors to explore our world and have each student member participate in this vision.
Action
To grow seeds in our greenhouse and devise a place to use our greenspace and school space to create a home space for various seeds. Our school has purchased an insect house and beehive to place outdoors. Students will be looking after these spaces on an on-going basis.
Reflection & Celebration
As our Eco Club team looks back at all the initiatives they did this year, taking action has become a central focus of our group. We have explored and expanded the type of projects we want to get involved in. We are currently looking at opportunities to involve the community and seek out ways to support the Indigenous community by affirming we want to be part of the call to action! Our school’s Eco Club participated in a book club and read “The Seed Keeper” by Diane Wilson. Since our school project was about seeds this year, the Eco Club students really appreciated reading this Indigenous literature. As a teacher, going to PD sessions and getting my Indigenous AQ Part 1 course this year, has led me to realize our school needs to do more moving forward. We have a new commitment and goal for next year and moving forward.
