Garden Green Teens

Vision

Our vision for Canada is for everyone to have access to fresh locally produced vegetables in their community. We will plant seeds and grow and water the plants, which we will donate to Greener Village, a local community food bank.

Action

We planted vegetable seeds in pots and grew them in our classroom after researching which plants were the most in need and would be highly nutritious. We planted, re-potted, and watered the plants for weeks until they grew large enough to donate. We donated the plants we grew (tomatoes, carrots, beans, cucumbers, zucchini, sweet peas, and peppers) to Greener Village. We volunteered for an afternoon at Greener Village to plant our vegetables in their garden. We interviewed volunteers to discover what they do on a daily basis. Families in our community will be able to pick and take the vegetables home over the summer.

Reflection & Celebration

We learned a lot about how to care for seedlings and plants over the course of the project. It was very rewarding to donate our plants so that others can have access to fresh food this summer and fall. On June 1st, 2023, our school will be having an Open House in the evening for our school community. We will have our Action Project on display on a poster board. We will play our video on a laptop for people to watch. We will continue to educate our classmates by inviting them to watch our video.
