Garden Restoration
Vision
The students were inspired to do this project because our classroom overlooks the garden space. This garden is also the the first thing you see when you approach the front of the school. Adding additional planting material will beautify the school and reduce the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. It will also benefit the bees as we will include flowering plants and birds as there will be fruiting plants.
Action
We planted a perennial school garden and included native plants. Our project aligns with the theme of climate change because plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. The plants will also reduce erosion and runoff. We used hardy plants that don’t require additional water inputs so it will be less energy intensive.
Reflection & Celebration
Our students really got their hands dirty with this project and are very proud of their results! The garden is now a beautiful place for the students and community to enjoy.
