Growing Green @ Langdale
Vision
We are looking to rewild our school grounds and decolonize the land that our school is on. We have been planting trees, shrubs, ferns and other indigenous plants to be sure that we have a more diverse landscape around us.
Action
We planted a number of trees, shrubs, ferns and other indigenous plants around the school ground in hopes that it will create a more diverse landscape for human and more-than-human use. We worked together in community – students, teachers, parents, caregivers and extended family and community to reshape our landscape with the grant money we received. It was incredibly helpful and we have seen dramatic changes to our school grounds over the past few years.
Reflection & Celebration
Students were incredibly proud of their work in planting! Great care is given to watering the trees and caregiving to the new life on the property. Many parents and teachers said they wished we did more hands-on work like this more frequently throughout the year. They noticed the joy and authentic learning that was connected to these real life, tangible experiences. We will definitely try to do more in the future!
