Growing Pollinators and Native Plants

Vision

Our Eco Club wanted to grow and plant native plants and pollinators for our school, homes and community. There is limited access to sun exposure in our school. The Eco Club decided to use our funding to purchase LED Grow lights to grow plants year-round.

Action

The students help research the best LED grow lights that we could assemble and use in the school. The LED grow light systems were purchased and assembled. Students were pre-taught the importance of pollinator plants. Students were shown how to plant seeds in compostable pots. Plants were watered and students monitored the growth of seedlings.

Reflection & Celebration

Students enjoyed planting the seeds and watering the soil. Students have been excited to watch the germination process. Students who planted milkweed learned about the importance of milkweed for monarch butterflies.
