Vision

The K- 8 project was to build a garden and plant edible veggies and fruits for students to eat as snacks. The city of Pickering nominated Highbush for their sustainable neighbourhoods program.

Action

Our Eco CLub is looking to create a learning garden. This garden will include areas for each grade to learn from. For example, in the grade 6 curriculum, the concept of the three sisters growing style used by aboriginal peoples can be shown, not just read about in books and resources. The garden will be tended-to by various grades and students from the eco club. This will also help students understand the ease of growing small portions of your own food, while at the same time promoting healthy eating habits of their daily source of fruits and vegetables.
