Vision
All Canadians would be food secure by consuming food from locally produced agriculture and food sources. All schools will have active Green Teams supported in many green initiatives.
Action
Tuesday May 14 2013 was the big day. Hunger Bites!, a Youth Food Security Symposium, brought together well over 100 students from 14 schools, teachers and community partners for a day of interactive workshops and presentations. Team members had a hand in every aspect of the day: they registered schools as they arrived, engaged students to participate in interactive games and a twitter feed, and helped to serve lunch. They ran the majority of the workshops, and were the masters of ceremony throughout the whole day. They also created a video of the day, and conducted the evaluation at the end of the symposium. In an effort to raise awareness with their peers on issues of food security and food insecurity, to share their own experiences and inspire other youth to act for positive change, Chedabucto’s Green Team idea is now a reality.
