Leading With Purpose and Passion

Our vision for Canada is that young people are encouraged to be leaders, giving voice to issues they are curious and passionate about! Defining ourselves as leaders in sustainability-related issues sets an example whose positive impact can spread quickly.

Our team attended LSF’s Youth Leadership Forum in Halifax in November. From the speakers and workshops, we learned about sustainability topics and skills such as leadership and how we can define ourselves as leaders. We also learned about waste, which made us interested in pursuing Action Projects about the issue(s) of paper waste specifically. This is important to us and our school because we care about deforestation issues. To fix these issues, some actions we could take are reusing worksheets and creating reuseable paper (lamenting paper so it lasts). But first we’ll need to talk to our principal and learn more about the costs associated with improving the management of our paper waste. We hope that by the end of the school year, we will have reduced the paper consumption in our school.
