Living Wall and Medicine Wheel Garden

Vision

Our vision was to continue to grow our living walls using plants that we can eat, medicinal herbs and air purifiers. We plan to use the medicinal herbs for educational purposes. The edible plants will be used in our breakfast program. The air purifiers will be used in our classrooms. We hope to become a more eco-friendly school.

Action

Our plan was to purchase and plant the plants in the spring. However, due to COVID-19 and the restrictions placed on us by the school and the government, we were not able to purchase the plants until the fall. The plan was for the grade 8 students to take care of the plants in their classroom. Once the weather is nicer and we are allowed back for face-to-face learning, the plants for the medicine wheel garden will be transplanted into the garden and the living wall plants will continue to be taken care of in those classrooms.

Reflection & Celebration

In the spring we will be able to transfer the indoor plants outside to the medicine wheel garden. Once plants and herbs have grown we can use them in our breakfast program. We enjoy looking at the beautiful plants hanging on the living wall in the office every day. In reflection our project did not go as planned due to COVID-19, however we will be able to finish what we started once the weather allows us to do the outdoor planting.
