Microplastic Enemies

Vision

Our vision is to inform people what microplastics are, what are its effects on the environment, how people can reduce it, and how harmful it is or how it can become a bigger problem in the future if we do not act now.

Action

In our project, we presented power points to grade grades six and seven classes about microplastics and after we were finished, we gave them a survey to see what they learned. We put up posters throughout our school to educate students, and we cleaned up the Wolastoq River with our classmates. We had an interview with our Vice Principal, Jacob Lingley, to ask him what our school was doing to reduce plastic waste. It was a very informative session, and he sent our teachers an email, letting us know how well he thought we did. He said, ” It was a reminder of how powerful our student voices are and that we need to continue to empower them to discover their agency within their community.”

Reflection & Celebration

We learned a lot of things that we never heard how such as microplastic and its effects. The most surprising thing me and my group learned was that microplastics never disposes because it keeps getting smaller.
Celebration: We will have a Film Festival at our school between May 28th- May 30th in which classes from grades six through eight can sign up and bring a class to watch our Water Docs videos that we created. We will have a few students who were involved in Water Docs there to facilitate the showing of the videos. We will have a feedback form for them to fill out afterwards and there will be time for our student leaders to answer any questions from the classes.
