Mill Bay Nature School Community Garden Seed Library
Vision
Ours is a new school of choice in the Cowichan Valley School District. We spend at least half of our days outside everyday. To create rich experiential learning opportunities we decided to create a community garden with both a food garden and sensory dye garden. As part of the development of our new school garden we wanted to create a seed library to use for future years and to share with our community.
Action
Working with a multi-age group of children during Playful Inquiries, we were able to paint and decorate an existing cupboard to make it ready for life in our garden shed. In February, groups of children planted seeds to begin indoors for both our food garden and sensory dye gardens. We are excited as this year will be our inaugural year of planting!
Reflection & Celebration
We celebrated the creation of our seed library by inviting clans to use the library and begin to plan out areas of our gardens. We are excited to witness our garden’s continued development over the course of the Spring!
