Vision
My vision for this project is to provide a hands-on learning experience for grade 2 students. Students are learning about growing food locally. We also have been learning about the effect of being outside and digging in dirt on our mental health and well being. Student took care of their lettuce plants by giving water and watching them grow.
Action
My students engaged in a collective project promoting a sustainable world. Our educational focus will center on growing produce locally and its integral role in reducing climate change. I am seeking funding to purchase recources such as soil, containers/planters and small lettuce plants in the spring so students can each plant a lettuce. This initiative will empower each student to personally nurture and cultivate a lettuce plant. Through this hands-on experience, students will witness the growth process, culminating in the harvest of a mature lettuce that they can take home to share with their family. This project aims to instill a deeper understanding of the environmental impact of localized food production while fostering a sense of responsibility towards sustainable practises in our your learners. This project aligns with the HDSB strategic plan of environmental leadership.
Reflection & Celebration
I am hoping that before the end of the school year each student will be able to take home a lettuce to their family. They will appreciate the work that goes into growing food and understand that locally grown foods reduce our carbon footptint.
