Mobile Garden
Vision
We decided to plant a garden because we have a breakfast club program at our school so we wanted to be able to contribute to our breakfast bowls. We decided what we wanted to plant. We settled on cherry tomatoes, lettuce, Romaine, and various herbs.
Action
Our Eco-Club decided to plant a small mobile garden that we could move in and out of the school, as well as around our school yard. We chose these plants because we wanted to grow vegetables that grow quickly. Our teacher purchased the vegetables plants, soil, planter boxes, wagon and watering can. Then, we planted the plants at school in the planter boxes. We put the tomatoes in their own pot with tomato cages, the lettuce in their own boxes, and the herbs grouped together. Our project relates to sustainability because we are practicing becoming more reliant on ourselves by growing our own food. We are learning about the process of planting our own food which is a skill that many of us did not yet ever have the opportunity to explore.
