Oppenheimer Native Plants

Vision

David Oppenheimer Elementary School is located in the southeast section of Vancouver in a suburban and well-established neighbourhood. Our school grounds are already home to many native plant and tree species. As a small group of grade 4 planners, and later with the rest of our class, we decided to continue to develop our already robust ecosystem with long-term, sustainable plants and trees.

Action

We included several trees within our plan, including one Western Red Cedar which will provide years of CO2 absorption and oxygen to many generations of children and their families. We planted next to our elementary playground so as to provide maximum benefit to our youngest learners.

Reflection & Celebration

It was a happy and exciting and fulfilling experience for all the students and adults involved with planting these native trees and plants. Our celebration is more of an appreciation and a dedication to continue caring for and cultivating our newly planted garden.
