Vision

Our vision is to create an area that can be used for an outdoor classroom. Our school has been busy creating tabletop workbenches that staff and students can use year-round. We wish to use the area to encourage others to spend more time outside and to rely less on technology. The space can also be used as a 3-season picnic area. We want to educate students about sustainable practices and how to be more aware of their carbon footprint.

Action

We have begun creating two workbenches that will sit 12 students in total. The idea was developed by 5 of our grade 11 and 12 students. The benches are being created by some of our grade 7 and 8 industrial arts students under the direction of their teacher. We have purchased all the materials for the build and are almost done making them.

Reflection & Celebration

We are happy with the idea and look forward to using the benches in the summer months. The students have had the chance to learn how to plan out the project, and present the information to the administration and the younger students are gaining information on how to create the benches. We look forward to using them this year and in the years to come.
