Outdoor Learning Space
Vision
Our vision is to enrich our Outdoor Learning Space by integrating sustainability practices and Indigenous ways of knowing, creating a meaningful environment for land-based learning and community connection. By honouring First Nations, Métis, and Inuit cultures and deepening our understanding of traditional teachings, we aim to foster respect, reflection, and stewardship among our students.
Action
This project includes hands-on student engagement through spring garden preparation, planting the Three Sisters, and introducing sacred medicines to complement our talking circle area. Students will also collaborate with a visiting First Nations artist to co-create a mural that reflects the Seven Grandfather Teachings, Indigenous knowledge, and environmental sustainability. Additional improvements include installing benches and bilingual educational signage to enhance the learning space and cultural relevance.
Reflection & Celebration
We are hosting a community celebration to unveil the mural and recognize the learning, relationships, and efforts that brought this project to life. Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and families will be invited to reflect, share stories, and honour the growth of our Outdoor Learning Space as a place of cultural learning, environmental responsibility, and community connection.
