Planting Perennials for Pollinators
Vision
Our vision is to create an outdoor space which is vibrant and welcoming to everyone. We hope that our students and families use this space to learn more about the natural world around them and how interconnected and dependent we are on plants and animals.
Action
Our grade 4/5/6 students planted 6 new perennials (hydrangeas) in our outdoor garden/classroom space. Students collected compost material from one of our on-site composters, adding it to the soil for extra nutrients. They then watered the plants and mulched them.
Reflection & Celebration
Every student was eager to get involved in this project. Students took turns planting, getting compost, watering, and mulching the plants. All students were very engaged and enjoy learning about how to care for a garden.
