Plastic Pollution: Be the Solution
Vision
Fredericton is a beautiful city, but the plastic pollution here might get worse if we keep using plastic. We want to remind people to use reusable things and use less plastic because plastic can ruin our planet. It takes 20 to 500 years to decompose Plastic and that’s the reason that we should use less plastic.
Action
We made 6 different posters about plastic pollution some of them have more information about plastic pollution and some have survey so that they can scan it so that they can know more about it, and we put the posters around the school so that the people in the school can see it and answer the survey that we did. We interviewed an expert through email, Nadine Duguay who works for Circular Material a company based in Fredericton, to answer our questions about plastic pollution so that we can know more about plastics, because there are some things that we still don’t know about plastic pollution. Circular Material sent us their answers because they don’t have enough time to FaceTime on teams. Our academic group 8B and the other academic group 8A went to the Wolastoq river to do a clean-up along the shorelines of the river that is most known as St. John River. We picked up one big bag of garbage that was mostly full of cigarette buts, plastic, Styrofoam and articles of clothing.
Reflection & Celebration
We enjoyed working in a group and making our documentary. We learned a lot about plastic pollution, and what it does to our environment, and we also got the chance to teach our friends about it. We really like to interview an expert about it was informative and fun and we hope that other people start to open their eyes and help put an end to it.
Celebration: We will have a Film Festival at our school between May 28th- May 30th in which classes from grades six through eight can sign up and bring a class to watch our Water Docs videos that we created. We will have a few students who were involved in Water Docs there to facilitate the showing of the videos. We will have a feedback form for them to fill out afterwards and there will be time for our student leaders to answer any questions from the classes.
