Pollinator Garden

Vision

Inspired by a shared passion for environmental stewardship, our students envisioned creating a thriving pollinator garden on school grounds. Their goal was to revitalize an existing, underused garden space by cleaning it up and transforming it into a vibrant, welcoming environment for pollinators. Through this project, they aimed to contribute to the local ecosystem while enhancing the beauty of their school’s outdoor spaces.

Action

Our students took the lead in planning and creating a vibrant garden space that fosters both learning and environmental stewardship. They carefully chose the ideal location, selected a variety of plants, and developed a timeline to ensure the garden was ready for planting.

The project began with the students cleaning and preparing an existing garden bed. They nurtured seedlings from seeds, planted pre-grown plants, and even installed a bee hotel, which was created by high school students, to encourage pollination. A rain barrel was sourced from a teacher to promote sustainable watering practices.

In addition to their efforts, a Grade 3 class created seed bombs, which were distributed to other classrooms throughout the school, inviting everyone to join in the gardening project. The Kindergarten class also contributed by planting seeds, which were later transplanted into the garden as young plants.

This collaborative effort not only enhanced our school’s outdoor space but also brought together students of all ages to grow, learn, and share in the joy of gardening.

Reflection & Celebration

The students couldn’t be more proud of their hard work and the beautiful garden they created. Their sense of accomplishment was celebrated as pictures of the thriving garden were shared on the school’s social media page, showcasing their collective effort and dedication.

Each day, students eagerly pass by the garden, stopping to check for new growth and changes. It’s a heartwarming reminder of their hands-on learning and the positive impact they’ve made on their school community.
