Reducing Waste and Reusing Waste At Our School
Vision
The Grade 6 class at EDPS decided to reduce litter and waste at our school!
Action
The Grade 6 class at EDPS started their year by doing daily walks on the school yard. They noticed a lot of litter in the yard, and decided they should clean it up. They collected data on yard waste and put up posters around the school to inform students and staff about the litter problem. They purchased an outdoor garbage can for litter clean-up using the funding from LSF. They also studied landfill sites, recycling, and microplastics, and decided to set up indoor and outdoor composting. They invited other classes to participate in composting as well. They are using their compost to set up 5 outdoor raised beds and grow vegetables in them to share with the school.
Reflection & Celebration
The grade 6 students take pride in their yard and their garden, and will enjoy the vegetables once they are grown!
