School Compost

While working on a science project about sustainability, our class noticed that we were throwing a lot of organic waste in the garbage. So we did a trial run of composting, and noticed that our waste was reduced significantly. When our trial ended, one of our classmates decided he wanted to make composting a possibility for the whole school. So he got to work writing a proposal and applying for grants.

Before we could start a compost program, we created informational materials to share with the whole school. We also prepared bins to go out to every room. In April of 2022, with the help of Compost Winnipeg and funding from Learning for a Sustainable Future, our school officially became a composting school.

Reflection & Celebration

So far our program has run very smoothly and our amount of waste has been reduced significantly. We will continue to plan fundraisers so this program can continue into the future.
