School Enhancement Project: Planting Indigenous Seedlings 2025 Spring

Vision

EFPS Gardening Initiative:

We can be stewards for the land that cares for us, by planting and caring for Ontario pollinating flowers to protect the treaty land we learn on.
These flowers will come back year after year if we take care of them!

Action

Step #1:
Assess the soil health with students before planting (is it impacted/hard, full of weeds, full of roots) . Decide as a class what needs to be done in your section.
Step #2
Remove weeds, roots, garbage and dead plants. Please ensure the soil from the weeds remains in the ground.
Step #3:
Plant native bee pollinating & butterfly pollinating perennials seedlings.
Step #4:
Water and check your portion of the garden regularly.

Reflection & Celebration

We will be discussing the outcome of the project in our daily announcements and celebrating the plants as they grow and we care for them. Each class participating has been assigned a specific area to care for.
