School-Wide Compost Program

Our goal was to reduce the amount of waste being sent from our school to the landfill, and to develop a way to make nutrient-rich soil for the vegetable gardens in front of our school.

Two years ago, our school used funding from LSF to build a large compost unit in front of our school. COVID slowed down the implementation of a school-wide compost program, but this spring, our Grade 8 students were finally able to put this plan into action! We used our funds to purchase a compost container for each classroom in our school, as well as the staff room. The Grade 8 students prepared age-appropriate presentations for each class, to teach them about the how’s and why’s of composting.
