SEEC Composting Education
Vision
Our vision is to improve our composting system at the Saturna Ecological Education Centre. We needed funds to help support our initiative to obtain a new composter that would prevent rodents and other wildlife from accessing the area. Because students live at SEEC in an off-grid facility three-days per week, they needed a more sustainable way to generate compost. Students also wanted to use this compost in our native plant garden in order to create a more sustainable garden system.
Action
We have purchased a Green Cone composter that will help achieve our goals. We have also use part of our grant money to pay for a composting basics workshop from the Composting Education Society. We have also purchased native plant seeds that will be planted in the fall in our native plant garden (which the compost will be used to enrich the soil).
Reflection & Celebration
We have yet to reflect and celebrate as we have yet to receive our Green Cone composter and seeds, and have yet to participate in our composting workshop. These are all scheduled to take place by or before June 11th. We are very excited for these items to arrive and to participating in this meaningful learning.
