ST. Matthew CSS Market Sale
Vision
Our vision was to have students involved in a “hands on” project that would allow them not only to learn about an environmental topic (benefits of native species) but interact with the local community.
Action
The Environmental Science class learned about the importance and benefits of using native species when planting. The goal was to grow vegetables, herbs and flowers from seeds using recycled materials such as egg cartons, Tim Horton cups and biodegradable pots to sell at a Market Sale in May. The Hospitality class joined our efforts by selling canned goods prepared by the students. Next year we plan on continuing this project but we will have the luxury of using our new greenhouse which will allow us to sell more mature plants.
