St. Richard Green Energy Fair

Our vision is to empower students with knowledge, communication and team-work skills and to instill in them a strong sense of caring for the environment and their community. Carrying this with them into the future they will have the tools to make choices and changes that will have a positive impact on our society and the planet.

St. RIchard Elementary is the first school in Edmonton Catholic School District to install a PV solar system. To increase the capacity for learning from our system and to celebrate solar energy, on May 27, 2016, Grade 5 students at St. Richard Elementary led students from 2 other schools to find answers related to solar PV systems, solar cooking and renewable energy. Students also interacted with our community partners at the Solar Energy Society of Alberta, NAIT Alternative Energy Program and Great Canadian Solar. Students were put into mixed school groupings of three to collaborate on building and racing solar cars. Each student received a car kit to take back to their school to build as well.
