Student Growth

Vision

Our vision was to support students in growing food plants with the use of an indoor Hydroponic Growth system. Having them engage in this project, put the system together, plant, support growth and monitor, making observations to inspire environmentalists for the future. Having students connect meaningfully to the earth through personal experiences, in hopes they will continue to contribute to an eco focus in their lives moving forward.

Action

Order, purchase, put together, plant, monitor, observe and care for a hydroponic indoor planting system.

Reflection & Celebration

We had some challenges to overcome. Initially the system was put together and planted without the use of glue, a step missed during assembly (which had to be ordered separately). Because of this, the system leaked every single day. We would come in to the STEM lab and there would be water all over the floor. We would mop it up, reset the system and try again. It took a few weeks of problem solving to discover the issue. Once discovered, we took the system apart, ordered the glue, reassembled and replanted. Currenlty, it has been adopted by the Grade 3 team for use this Term.
